MADE IN SHED cabins and garden snugs hit 90%+ reclaimed material content, only having to buy new on insulation, electrics and waterproofing. It may not change the world in a blink, but taking the time to source what's available for free or reclaimed, and let it steer design decisions, always leads to great outcomes.

The cabin featured here has a pallet structure, repurposes a hardwood bench back as a balustrade, is clad with reclaimed Sussex clay tiles and has windows using coloured glass from the greenhouse that sat on the site – releaded and set into double glazed panels. Old concrete slabs already on site formed the base grid and the client opted to buy in cedar shingles for a spectacular finish to the roof.

Other projects involved using old 1930s interior doors for a garden snug roof, creating a lovely panelled ceiling effect. A quick look online and another cabin benefitted from c.150 hand tapped slate roof tiles to clad the from wall. A free, it just takes some time to look, find and collect.

My inner Womble is at its happiest on these larger projects, because it's amazing what can be found and repurposed with a little creative thinking add a bit of graft.
